OFF TO RABAUL Farewell to Popular Constable JOINED COMMONWEALTH POLICE The police at Parramatta assembled at the police station yesterday afternoon to extend their good wishes to ex-Con stable Christopher Normoyle who has joined the Commonwealth Police and will shortly take up duty as Warrant Officer at Rabaul. At the outset, Inspector Roberts apologised for the unavoidable absence of Superintendent Beattie and Inspector Williamson. Inspector Roberts said that they all regretted the pending departure of their comrade and friend, and hoped that he would rapidly advance in his new sphere of police activity. Sergeant Crocker said that they were sorry indeed to lose Mr. Normoyle, who at all times had proved himself a loyal comrade. "Whatever his duties may be in the land to which he is going," Sergeant Crocker said, "we know that he will fulfil them ably and well, as he has done in the Police Force of N.S.W." Sergeant Sweeting spoke in a similar strain, and said that the N.S.W. police could ill afford to lose men of the calibre of Mr. Normoyle. Detective Sergeants Sturridge and Sly spoke on behalf of the plainclothes staff. were made by Constables Stack pool, Wightley, Curtis and Nixon; Mr. Ferguson representing the C.P.S. and Mr J. Toohey representing the Press. As a little token of their esteem, Mr. Normoyle received from his comrades a handsome travelling case. Expressing his thanks, Mr. Normoyle said that he had never worked with more loyal and straightforward men than those with whom he had been associated during his police service at Parramatta. He had always endeavoured to carry out his duties honourably and fairly, and had profited by the advice and assistance he had received from his comrades. Regarding the very fine present they had given him, Mr. Normoyle said that he would always treasure it, and the sentiment associated with it. Prior to joining the police about four years ago, Mr, Normoyle was attached to the clerical staff at the Parramatta railway station. Truly was it said that the police could ill afford to lose men of the calibre of Mr. Normoyle. Modest and unassuming, her was a most courteous and capable servant of the public. Magistrates and even defending counsel have on various occasions commended the absolute fair ness and impartiality with which he gave his evidence in Court, Mr. Normoyle leaves for Rabaul today.
