Reynaldo O. Joson, MD

Video:

Stand in front of the mirror with both arms on the side and look for anything unusual in terms of symmetry and contour of the breasts as well as skin and nipple appearance.

Repeat inspection with both arms raised.

To palpate the right breast, keep your right hand raised while using the finger flats of your left hand to palpate in a clockwise manner.

Start palpating in circular motions at the 12 o clock position.

Repeat circular motions at least three times with each circle being deeper than the last taking note of any sings of lumps.

Repeat at the 1-2 o clock position

Then at the 3 o clock position

Then at the 4-5 o clock position

Then at the 6 o clock position

Then at the 7-8 o clock position

Then at the 9 o clock position

Then at the 10-11 o clock position

Then in front of the armpit

Then at area surrounding the nipple

Then gently squeeze the nipple at least 3 times and check for any signs of discharge.

Finally, with arms downs, check underneath the armpit for any lumps/
