I have a theory that my Daniel Robinson is a descendant (or somehow connected to) Rowland Robinson (1654-1716) of Rhode Island. Bear with me now.
- Susan Greenman (1780-1864) married my 4th great-grandfather, Daniel Robinson, in about 1809- probably in Berlin, NY (Rensselaer County where many Rhode Island families moved after the Revolutionary War).
- Susan was the daughter of Susannah Gardiner (1737-1805) and Deacon William Greenman (7th Day Baptist) from Kingstown, Rhode Island, which is the same town where Rowland Robinson and his descendants lived.
- Susannah Gardiner was the daughter of George Gardiner III (1720-1788) and Sarah Boss (daughter of Aimee Gardiner).
- George Gardiner III was the son of George Gardiner II (1696-1787) and Susanna Hazard.
- George II had a second wife, Sarah Robinson (1706-1744), daughter of John Robinson (1677-1712) and later raised by her uncle, Deputy Gov. William Robinson (1693-1751) who married Abigail Gardiner (1700-1772). Both John & Willam were sons of Rowland Robinson (1654-1716).
- Sarah's sister, Susannah Robinson (1712-1762), married Peregrine Gardiner (b. 1707), a great-grandson of George Gardiner I.
- William Robinson's son, Rowland Robinson (1719-1806), married Anstis Gardiner (1721-1773).
All Gardiners above are descendants of George Gardiner I (1599-1677) and all Robinsons (with the exception of Daniel) are confirmed descendants of Rowland Robinson (1654-1716). I know it is a bit of a stretch, but, given the trend, I think Daniel may very well have been a relative of Rowland. And since I have yet to turn up any supporting documents, I am hoping Y-DNA genealogy could support or refute this someday.
The table below shows how the people above match up roughly by generation.
