I have run a calculation program using a home written propagation BBC basic code program, the end result is hopefully an idea of the Bitx40 performance under an ideal conditions. I have made a few assumptions, using a lumped component antenna of a full 40m wavelength, or perhaps a wire antenna of 40m a full wavelength through a 9:1 balam, and the radio ham one is talking to is using a 50ohm stub antenna. The below list of test results illustrates the results.
The table below is the out going signal, at a BItx40 7Watts Tx with a 40 metre wire antenna fed through a 9:1 balam, while the ham one is talking too is using a 50ohm stub antenna.
The next table below, is the incoming signal from the Ham one is talking to, their transmitter at 100Watts into a 50ohm stub antenna, the bitx40 uses a 40m wire antenna fed through a 9:1 balam.
The comparison is the comparing signal range between both table results. Here the difference between the signal for a common distance range can be seen.
