RotorBrite© Installation

Warning

The installation of this simple modification requires removing the cover of the rotor control unit, exposing 110VAC on some components, and soldering of wires to the PCB and the control. If you are not competent to perform these tasks, seek the assistance of someone who is competent.

Refer to the rotor control manual and schematic.

  1. Remove power from the control.
  2. Remove the top cover.
  3. Remove the lamp above the meter from its socket.
  4. Place electrical tape over all exposed terminals which carry 110VAC (On/Off switch, transformer primaries, etc.)
  5. Orient the LED PCB with terminals labeled "RED" to the right and LEDs facing down. White connections are marked TP(smaller numbers) and Red connections are marked TP(higher numbers).
  6. Solder 2 wires each 3" long to the TP terminals for WHITE.
    1. Solder the other ends to the terminals on the socket above the meter.
    2. In the photo, the WHITE LEDs are powered via the Blue/White wires in the right side of the photo. They connect the PCB to the bulb socket terminals.
  7. CAREFULLY, apply power and turn on the control, avoiding all high voltages.
  8. Note and lightly mark the center of the meter scale on the top of the meter.
    1. Note the center of the LEDs and mark that location on the TOP side of the PCB. This may NOT be the physical center of the PCB!
  9. Align the PCB front/rear for maximum brightness on the meter scale. Center the LEDs on the center of the meter left/right. The PCB may appear offset to the right.
    1. If you desire a more diffused light, place a single sheet of white paper between the LEDs and the meter.
  10. Remove the protective strips from the foam tape and affix the PCB to the top of the meter.
  11. Remove power.
  1. Solder 6" wires from the Red terminals Using the large holes marked TP(higher numbers).
    1. Solder the other ends of the wires to the rear terminals 1 & 2. These circuit nodes are more conveniently available*:

Terminal 1 at a chassis lug in front of the Instrument transformer

Terminal 2 on the CW/CCW switches common node available on the bottom of the control.

In the photo, the purple wire powers the RED LEDs via rear terminal #1, which is connected to the chassis. Another chassis terminal located between the instrument transformer and the front panel is a convenient place to make connection. Verify that this terminal and rear terminal #1 are connected in your control.

    1. In the photo, rear terminal #2 is available on the wire connecting the CW and CCW switches. Verify this connection in your control. The purple wire powers the RED LEDs via this connection located on the bottom side of the control box.
  1. Install the top and bottom covers.
  2. Apply power. Observe the WHITE LEDs illuminate.
  3. Depress the Brake switch. Observe the RED LEDs illuminate.
