The purpose of Linux Mint is to produce a modern, elegant and comfortable operating system which is both powerful and easy to use.

How to download

Touch the Download TAB, and click "LMDE 3" or "Linux Mint 19.*" in the top of the page.

LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) is based on Debian, and Linux Mint 19.* is based on Ubuntu.

Click the "64-bit" of Cinnamon, Mate, or Xfce desktop style as the following picture.

Now, you can choose a mirror site, and start downloading the ISO file.

Misc.

user ID. is 1000 in the LMDE and is 999 in the Linux Mint 19.*.

Ctrl + Alt + F1..F6 keys open a CUI. Ctrl + Alt + F7 keys return to GUI. Alt + right/left change the tty.

apt (1) install new programs.

Install

Now, I don't recommend installing Linux Mint into a USB flash memory, because the Timeshift requires more than 8GB in the disk after initial operations. The following picture shows the welcome dialog box.

The first step is making a snapshot. The second step installs codecs. The third step updates packages. And at the fourth step, you have to install English because some language packs are missing as the following picture.

After these operations, timeshift uses 8.6GB in the USB memory stick as the following picture.
