AI Statement: My collaborators, students, and I are not using AI until more clearly established policies are set as to how it may be safely, environmentally, and correctly used to conduct research. All research projects that I assign can be done using the traditional methods described below:
using databases like mathscinet and google scholar and the arxiv to conduct a literature search,
reading the introductions to the articles that are found, scanning inside articles for a sense of the methods and proofs, and reading articles you apply closely to understand their proofs completely.
completing calculations by hand or using maple, mathematica, or MATLAB which are programs which have established and well understood levels of precision in their calculations. They do not hallucinate.
thinking and drawing, developing an intuitive understanding, and then piecing together a logical proof with justifications, even if this takes many hours or a lifetime.
This does not mean that I reject all mathematics completed using AI. It just means that I need to take the time to check such work is correct before determining if it is correct and applying it.
