Because PIE uses special characters known as Unicode combining characters, it requires an advanced font to render PIE text nicely.

How to Change PIE's Font Setting

By default, PIE uses Cambria for Windows Vista and higher, and Cherry PIE (shipped with PIE) for Linux and lower versions of Windows. These fonts are guaranteed to work well. However, you can specify your own fonts in PIE's Options page (right-click the "pie" icon

and click "Options").

Fonts that Work Well on All Platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X)

Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) produces four Latin fonts that work well with PIE on all platforms. Better yet, they have a free license which means you can use them for both non-commercial and commercial purposes.

PIE ships with a font called Cherry PIE which is modified from Charis SIL and provides clearer shape for diacritics at small font sizes.
