Prehistory

From early childhood in Poland, winter meant skiing. Of course it was downhill although in my childhood it meant skiing 4 km through snow covered fields to the nearest hill, going up and down , maybe 2 times before it was getting dark, skiing home again. In later years I spent each winter some two weeks in Polish mountains. I skied also in Slovakia and in Caucasus in former USSR, highlight of this trip was skiing on slopes of Mt Elbrus.

When I arrived in Australia in 1983, I thought I should forget about skiing. It was not true, I discovered Mt Buller. Quite good skiing facilities but downhill runs looked too short to me. Rows of ski lifts reminded rather a factory, not the freedom of skiing.

At the same time I discovered also ski fields of Lake Mountain, only 120 km from Melbourne.

I used to go there from time to time with children. Quite casually, as you see on the left...
