The archaeological sanctuary of Machu Picchu continues to be closed due to the mobilizations that are still being recorded in the region.
Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga reported that work is being done in an articulate manner with various sectors for the reopening of Machu Picchu (Cusco), guaranteeing safety conditions for visitors and people linked to tourism activity.
“The citadel is expedited to receive all and everyone, we want to have the assurance that the displacement will be safe on the journey. Our probable date is February 15,” he indicated.
Urteaga made the announcement during a meeting attended by President Dina Boluarte and Machupicchu District Mayor Elvis La Torre to work on various projects for the development of the locality, including the reopening of the Inca citadel.
“Machupicchu is a world attraction, we have to recover the tourism affected by the blockades, how many companies have been lost, how many, businesses have gone bankrupt, we respect the people by letting them work,” she said.
For his part, the mayor of Machupicchu expressed concern about the impact of the protests on tourism. According to him, 100% of his district’s revenue comes from this paralyzed activity, which motivated the closure of hotels and restaurants, as well as the increase in unemployment.
“Machupicchu is empty, there is enormous concern because visits have been canceled due to the social and political crisis. We have found a good disposition from the lady chairperson. We guarantee the normal flow and movement of tourists in our jurisdiction for the reopening of the city,” he asserted.
As recalled, the archaeological shrine of Machu Picchu continues to be closed due to the mobilizations that are still registered in the region and that has prevented the transfer and arrival of tourists to the main tourist attraction of Peru.
