Who says Cusco says Machu Picchu ... but there is much more to discover! We love Cusco, its city and its surroundings and, in particular, the sacred valley, which is an inevitable step in the same way as Machu Picchu to discover in the region!
Cusco City Tour
The Sacred Valley
Aguas Calientes
There are cities through which we pass and others where we keep your bag with pleasure a few days or weeks ... Cusco is one of them! It is undoubtedly the most beautiful discovery of the trip, we discovered a city certainly a bit touristy but full of charm, good restaurants with a relatively mild climate even in the middle of winter.
Be careful of altitude sickness when you reach this city at 3,800 meters above sea level. In general, hotels offer an infusion of coca upon arrival in the city, do not hesitate ... cheer up!
The central square of Cusco! Beautiful place with many benches to walk around and some tall bars to watch the sunset have a cocktail.
The largest and tourist market in Cusco. You cannot enter the city without discovering it and enjoying its special atmosphere. Essential to taste and buy Peruvian specialties! Ideal also to bring some memories! You can visit the neighborhood to discover the interesting local life.
Although it is a small tourist, it is nice to discover the center of the city of Cusco and its alleys to the Inca remains full of charm. There are also most tourism agencies to organize excursions.
The most beautiful part of the city with its cobbled streets and white houses. You have to get lost in the alleys ... dare to go up and down the stairs, take a break in front of one of the most beautiful views of the city, walk on a bench and get carried away by the charm of San Blas.
The second most beautiful area of Cusco, but be careful, climb steep!
You have to walk to the church of San Cristóbal to enjoy a wonderful view of the city.
Cusco is more than Machu Picchu ... The sacred valley at the gates of Cusco is a beautiful region to discover that makes us go back in time! Ideal to start immersion in the Inca culture before attacking Machu Picchu!
It is possible to imagine a 2-day excursion from Cusco that includes the Sacred Valley + Machu Picchu.
We found in particular (but there are many others!) Two sites of the Inca civilization very well preserved:
The Pisac site is THE most important site in the valley. Very well preserved on the top of the mountain with its many terraces, it offers many views! We could spend hours admiring the ruins and the landscape simply by landing on a patch of grass. A good starting point for the visit!
A short break is needed to discover the city of Pisac and its colorful tourist market!
This site in perfect condition was one of the greatest strengths of the Inca Empire! A favorite of the valley despite the tourist viewpoint.
It is often the main interest of the visit of Cusco, the city is the nerve center to get there ... we immerse ourselves in the Inca culture to discover Machu Picchu. And we are not disappointed with the trip! Machu Picchu really fills our eyes.
He is standing there as if time had forgotten. It is at 2,400 meters of altitude in the middle of a dense vegetation that hides this Inca jewel: Wow, magical, extra, beautiful, surreal!
You can say: "I was there!"
How to go ? Where to buy your ticket? Do you need a guide? I answer all these questions here: visit Machu Picchu
Aguas Calientes, the unmissable step for Machu Picchu
Tourist city without too much charm, we still cannot visit Machu Picchu without stopping in Aguas Calientes, city of departure and arrival of the tourist train that connects the valley of Cusco and Machu Picchu. We usually spend the night before climbing (by bus or on foot) through one of the 7th wonders of the world!
The main activity? The thermal baths! What could be better than relaxing in sulphurous waters at 38 ° amid mountainous landscapes after a day of hiking?
Admission: 10 soles / person.
Where to eat ? There is no shortage of restaurants, but good restaurants are.
For the tests I recommend Indio Feliz!
