Student Teacher of the Year Recipients, 2013-2014

Fall 2013: Alexa Lacagnina

Alexa Lacagnina’s supervising professor describes her as “an enthusiastic and passionate teacher whose love for teaching is shown in her constant efforts to improve professionally. Alexa encourages critical thinking, actively engages her students to participate in their learning, and promotes positive social interaction.” In her application, Alexa wrote, “Student teaching has increased my passion. I know that through teaching, I will continue to grow as a person and as an educator. I hope to provide my students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful inside the classroom and in life for many years to come.”

Spring 2014: Casey McKay

Casey McKay is a dual major in Health and Physical Education. His supervising professor describes him as “a student who is eager to take charge in helping young people learn to take advantage of their physical capabilities.” During his student teaching experience, Casey participated in and presented at multiple conferences. In fact, at the New York State Conference in Syracuse, he was named the “Outstanding Major of the Year.” One of Casey’s co-operating teachers stated, “Casey is the most mature and ready to teach student teacher that this school district has ever seen. He has boosted our perception of LIU Post.”
