Hi Everyone!
I wanted to take this time to tell you about a very special time in May--Vesak. Vesak is a celebration of the full moon day on which the Buddha was born. All of the events that many of you took part in at the Vesak celebrations at PBC honor this occasion. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to this years Vesak celebration. Usually, I take part in the Bakthi Geetha--or singing of devotional songs. I was lucky though, because I got to be in Sri Lanka this year for Vesak. Vesak in Sri Lanka is very different than it is here because many people there celebrates it! Houses and buildings have lights and Vesak lanterns, and throughout the night there are various areas of town that are crowded with people trying to see these magnificent displays. This year (2011) was especially important because it celebrated the 2600th year after the Buddha's birth. It was so nice being able to see the entire city dressed up to celebrate such an important time in Buddhism. If you and your family are able to take a vacation to Sri Lanka, I would recommend going during Vesak. It is really beautiful, and quite a sight to see! Thanks for reading, talk to you soon!
