Earth-heart, I prayed,
nerves of raw fibre,
uproot me, yet
let what I have sworn to love not feel betrayed
when I must go, and, if I must go,
make of my heart an ark,
let my ribs bear
all, doubled by
memory, down to the emerald fly
marrying this hand, and be
the image of a young man on a pier,
his heart a ship within a
ship within a ship, a bottle
where this wharf, these
rotting roofs, this sea,
sail, sealed in glass.
