Ten things you should do
(1) Perform your duties as a dedication to God.
- Without wheels, how can a cart go forward? Without action, there is no progress.
- Duties can be worldly or other worldly
- Laziness or inaction is the enemy concealed in man's mind
- Action is superior to inaction
(2) Serve God through selfless action for the benefit of the world.
- God is the Lord of action.
- Selfless action is superior to desire prompted actions
- Selfless action performed with dedication to God is Karma Yoga
(3) Do not speak ill of good people
- If a person speaks ill of good people, he is a mean and despicable creature
- If someone, hearing those abusive words, tries to pay him back, he is still worse.
- Rise morally higher and still higher. Take the blows of wicked as if they are flowers
(4) Believe in God
- He who believes in God, performs his duty
- He keeps the tongue, the reproductive organ, word and mind under perfect control
- He performs his duty without fear of blame or censure
- He performs with balance of mind and discharges his duty - let people praise his actions or revile them
- He who believes in God and is devoted to Him, even if he commits sins will gradually attain devoutness and liberation.
- Even the man who believes that there is a God who is the Father of the Universe, does not try to understand Him. This fact is as strange as the existence of atheism.
(5) Don't allow yourself to be carried away by praise or blame
- When you go near such praise or blame, you will realize that much is false.
- Examine carefully and then only believe anything
(6) Use your own intelligence before accepting anything
- 'My guru said this' or 'scriptures said this'. On such grounds, don't take things on trust.
- You judge whether something should be accepted or rejected
(7) Accept sorrows yourself and rain down happiness on others
7.1 That is why Lord Siva swallowed poison and bore the moon on his forehead to impart coolness to others.
7.2 Good people bear good qualities on the head and suppress evil at the throat.
Whatever sorrow comes, take it as tapasya because Mother Veda says that sorrow does not happen for sorrow. Every calamity tends to our future prosperity. Those who know the way can convert poison into the nectar of immortality.
(8) Be a friend of all
8.1 All the people in the world are not friends to all other people. Some people who pose as friends prove to be no friends at all in the hour of need.
8.2 He who sees Self in all, and has no desires of his own whatsoever, is the friend of all, at all times, and in all circumstances - in adversity as well as prosperity.
(9) Don't be idle
- Don't leave all the future to chance or fate.
- Only who walks on and on can reach his goal, not the man who halts on the way
- If you wish to live, be manly
- Manliness alone is called "God" or "Fate"
- Loose the habit of leaving everything to fate
- Secure wordly and spiritual happiness by your manliness
(10) Be calm and peaceful
- Only a true Brahmin is calm and peaceful
- Has perfect control over mind and body
- Be a Brahmin, doing tapas and ever cheerful
