This was a three day grammar lesson done in April. We had previously talked about parts of speech. However, we never really spent too much time on them except for adjectives. This short writing unit reviewed the different parts of speech and introduced students to poem writing.
First, we talked about nouns in general and created a tree map (thinking map).
Then, we came up with some nouns that made us think of Spring.
The second day, we talked about verbs and adjectives. Rather than just brainstorm some random verbs and adjectives, we came up with Spring verbs and adjectives to go along with the Spring nouns we came up with.
Finally, on the third day, we put all our ideas today to create a Spring poem using the format below:
Spring is...

Spring is everywhere I see!
