I believe that children are our future.
Teach them well and let them lead the way.
Show them all the beauty they possess inside.
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier.
Let the children's laughter remind us of how we used to be...
Growing up, I always knew that my future career would involve working with children. At first, I thought about becoming a pediatrician. But my passion for education lead me towards the path of becoming an educator.
I am currently teaching fourth grade at Nimitz Elementary in Sunnyvale, CA. Prior to that, I spent three years teaching second grade at the same school. I also spent three years teaching third grade as the English teacher at College Park Elementary, a Mandarin-Immersion school in San Mateo-Foster City School District, one year teaching first grade at San Miguel Elementary, a Title One school, in Sunnyvale, CA, and three years teaching (two years in 1st grade, one year in 2nd) at Thornhill Elementary, a California Distinguished School, in Oakland Unified School District. I received my Masters in Teaching at the University of Southern California and Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I also have a BA in Psychology and double minor in Education and Chinese from University of California - Berkeley. I completed the BTSA program through OUSD and received my Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2013.
Prior to receiving my credential, I have had a variety of experience working with children in the urban setting. I spent most of my life in Palo Alto, a city with a top-notch school district. When I got a glimpse of the world of urban education when I started college, I knew that I had to find a way to share my own educational experience with these children. As an undergraduate student, I was heavily involved with a non-profit organization, OASES, in Oakland Chinatown which provided after-school tutoring and enrichment workshops to students grades 1-12 in the Oakland community with limited resources. I have also worked in summer camp settings, assisted in educational festivals, worked in other after-school programs, and also did some private tutoring outside of the country. Most of the schools I have worked with are Title One schools. My experience with urban education was further complemented with my student teaching rotations in Pasadena Unified.
I chose to work in the elementary field because I believe that the best time to reach out to children is early on, when they are still in the midst of discovering themselves and their dreams. My life goal is to make a difference in people's lives and I chose to accomplish this by reaching out to students in the classroom and teaching them not only the academic material required by the state, but to learn to love and believe in themselves so that they know that anything is possible.
Besides teaching, I am also very interested in event planning. I have always been the one to plan outings with my friends and also did a lot of event planning during my time with OASES. My other interests are in recreational tennis and badminton and singing. I am married and we have a dog, a mini-poodle pomeranian chihuahua mix, named Truffle. My husband and I enjoy taking Truffle on adventures with us.
