The Lesson
Prior to teaching this lesson, the students had already learned the life cycle of a grasshopper, butterfly, and ant from their Master Teacher. They created diagrams and flow chart for those lessons so I wanted to do something new for my lesson.
I began the lesson by showing the class a short clip that I found on youtube. I chose this particular video because I wanted to show my students that it is possible to learn from their own peers since the video was of two young boys talking about the frog life cycle.
This lesson also integrated the arts. I created my own worksheet that the students had to fill out on their own using sequential terms (included in the lesson plan). After having their work checked by me, they cut out the pieces and put them together on their own to create the final product, a circle chart of the life cycle of a frog. The chart was made into a circle to also show that the life cycle is a circular cycle which never ends.
The teaching portion of the lesson took around 25 minutes and the art creation took a couple of days for the students to complete. The final products turned out really nicely and the students' work was displayed in the hallway for everyone to see!
