Lab Inventory

Everything that is a consumable and common lab item should be updated on Quartzy when you receive the item. If you are the one who signs for and receives packages for the day, go to Quartzy to see who ordered the item and to update where you stored/placed it.

If you receive common chemicals, reagents, or kits, the Quartzy inventory will tell you where current items of this type are. Update it on the inventory as soon as possible. If you finish a bottle, dispose of the bottle appropriately and delete the corresponding entry on Quartzy. Make sure that either (1) a replacement has been ordered or (2) you order a replacement.

Please, please, please put things where they are meant to go and where they are compatible!

If you have any doubts about chemical compatibility, please see the attached Chemical_Incompatibilities.pdf which is extremely detailed.

Lab Inventory on Quartzy

All common lab items received must be documented in the Quartzy online inventory. Follow these simple steps to add an item to the inventory:

1. Log onto Quartzy

2. Click on the "Inventory" tab on the top panel.

3. Click on "Add item" option which is on the top left side.

4. Enter in all the details of the product including vendor, catalog number, CAS and LOT #'s. Also be sure to note the exact location of the item in the lab.

5. In the Specs, please enter the date the item was received.

6. If Quartzy auto-fills the details from the Catalog number, double check to make sure all the details are accurate, especially the unit size and amount.

7. Click on "Add item".

After entering the item in the Quartzy inventory, you can also write on the item "Date received: ___" and your initials.

Note: Please make sure you also add cell lines/antibodies to the inventory also. Enter in as much information as you can, including passage #, who we got them from and where they are located.

What do I do if a lab item finishes?

When a lab item runs out, please be sure to check the Quartzy order requests to check if a replacement has been ordered. If it hasn't, make sure you submit the order request immediately.

If the item is an empty container, make sure to cross out the name and dispose it appropriately.

If the item is an empty glass bottle, check to see whether it can be used for the collection of hazardous liquid waste.
