Play, learn, explore, and more! Cub Scouts provides opportunities for 1st through 5th grade girls and boys to pursue goals, work as a team, spend time outdoors, and develop important life skills in a fun, safe environment. The program is run by adult volunteers who receive training and guidance in fulfilling their leadership roles.
Cub Scouts advance along a trail of adventures, organized into dens by rank (roughly corresponding to grade level) and gender.
Lion - Kindergarten
Tiger - 1st grade
Wolf - 2nd grade
Bear - 3rd grade
Webelos and Arrow of Light - 4th and 5th grade
First graders, and anyone beyond that grade who is new to Cub Scouting, completes the Bobcat Badge prior to working on their grade-specific badge of rank. Kindergartners, who are Lions, do not work on the Bobcat Badge.
At the first pack and den meetings of the year, interested parents meet and get an opportunity to ask questions while the existing dens welcome new recruits in an activity. The Cub Scout Parent Information Guide also provides a good introduction.
Pack 462 holds the majority of its monthly meetings on the first Friday of the month at Cherry Chase Elementary School (1138 Heatherstone Way, Sunnyvale, map), with periodic campfire meetings held at Murphy Park (map).
Cub Scouts wear a "Class A" uniform to pack and den meetings. That consists of a blue Cub Scout shirt (with pack, den, and council patches affixed), hat, neckerchief and slide, and pants, shorts, or skort in good condition (jeans are ok). These items--and lots more scouting stuff--can be obtained from the Scout Shop at 970 W Julian in San Jose. In addition, the pack sells its own "Class B uniform" t-shirt appropriate for wear on many scout outings.
