How to Join

Welcome to Pack 462!  We're excited to share this adventure with you! Contact Us now to receive information and an invitation to upcoming meeting/activity.

How to join:

1. Attend a pack meeting to meet with a potential Den and its Den Leaders.

   • Boys and girls from Kindergarten - 4th grade are welcome to join.

   • Boys and girls in 5th grade may join only if they are transferring from another pack.

   • If age appropriate Den is full, 2 adults must form a new den. Den numbers may be balanced to create groups of 4-8 children per den.

     • It is our hope that every child who wants to join our pack be able to join, however, we need parents to be willing to step up and be Den leaders for this to happen.

2. Once a cub has a spot in a Den, then it's time for paperwork!

• 1. Youth Application Form - Fill out (and pay a portion of annual fee) online or ask Pack Chair for paper application

  2. Pack 462 Family Handbook - Print out and sign the last page, Parent Commitment and Volunteer position

  3. Family Resource and Talent Survey

  4. Before first hike or campout: Annual Medical History Form - Parts A & B only (include front/back copy of health card)

3. Pay pack annual fee (covers all pack meeting activities, Scout registration, PWD, group campsite)

   • • $175 payable by check (to Pack 462) or Paypal (to pack462sunnyvale@gmail.com using friends/family)

     • End of year rebates available for Scouts who participate in fundraisers

4. Purchase your uniform & handbook. Uniforms may be purchased at the San Jose Scouts BSA office (970 W Julian, San Jose), or online at http://www.scoutshop.org/ (Check our "recycled" uniforms box first!) 

        The Cub Scout Class A Uniform consists of:

• • Scout shirt  (~$30) - blue for grades 1-4, khaki for grade 5, Lion t-shirt for kindergartners ($13)

  • Den # patch (~$1.50)

  • Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council Patch (~$3.50)

  • Pack 462 patches (a "4" patch, a "6" patch, and a "2" patch) (~$1.50 each / $4.50 total)

  • Scout emblem patch (~$2)

  • Belt / Belt buckle (~$10)

  • Neckerchief (~$9)

  • Neckerchief slide (~$6)

  • Scout Cap (~$15)

  • Our pack does not require uniform bottoms; any clean pants/shorts/skort or jeans with no tears OK

  • Optional: Purchase a "Class B" uniform t-shirt for less formal occasions.  (These are purchased through Pack 462 for $15, not at the Scout Store.)

        Handbook: ~$17.00

5. Adults: reflect on your interests and skills. Do you have an interest or hobby that you'd love to share with the pack? The Family Resource and Talent Survey is how you make these known to the pack. Throughout the year we plan activities that will be richer through your participation. Cub scouting is a family activity made so much richer through involved parent participation. All families are expected to have at least one parent volunteer.
