September 11th Day of Service

Three Famous Photos of the American Flag

I will always remember September 11, 2001. The images on the television haunted me as I drove through the mountains, listening to the radio, with tears streaming down my cheeks. My sobs were desolate. Yet I had to be in my room and calm when my class came in. It was unreal, so far away, so close, and so absolutely devastating.

I will always remember September 11, 2001. I remember the worries and fears of my children. They echoed my own. I remember our anxiety, heartbreak, resolve, determination, and conviction.

I remember seeing the flag being raised by the first responders and the hope that filled my heart. I remember how difficult it was to stop the tears as we said the Pledge of Allegiance in class.

I hope we never forget. May we all be blessed and kept safe to stand united, to mourn, to remember, and to honor those taken from us.
