Line dancing isn't just about cowboy boots and big belt buckles. Line dancing is popular in a many communities and for a variety of music genres. Line dancing can be done to more than just country music. In nightclubs and at weddings all over, people are lining up and dancing together to a choreographed set of steps.

But how do people learn those steps? And how do they know which dances go with which songs?

Well, some people are able to pick up the line dances in the nightclub or at the wedding because it is usually a short set of steps that is repeated over and over again until the song is over. But sometimes even that isn't enough time to really learn the steps. Line dance lessons are taught in various nightclubs and dance halls around the world, but you can also find tutorials on YouTube.

Here is a mix of line dance music and tutorial videos to get you started:

To watch a YouTube playlist, all you have to do is click on the "play" button or anywhere in the middle of the player window and the first song will start playing. It will automatically play the next song after the current song is over. If you would like to skip ahead to another song, look for the icon in the top-left of the window that looks like a list with horizontal bars. Click on that icon and the playlist should appear over the video window. In that playlist, you can scroll down to see the list of songs and then click on the video you want to see.

If you have a favorite line dance that you don't see here, email OrlandoBallroomDancePortal@gmail.com. Heard of a line dance that you'd like to learn? Email us to request that dance be added to this playlist.

But why line dancing on a ballroom website?

It's true, line dancing is not part of ballroom dancing, dance sport, partner dancing, or the hobby version of ballroom commonly called "social dancing". Technically, line dancing has no place on a website like this.

The reason why it was included is because many people who take "ballroom" dance lessons really just want to look good at their daughter's wedding or the company office party, or maybe they want to add some form of regular, fun, physical activity to their lives. They aren't interested in entering competitions or putting on performances - they just don't want to embarrass themselves in public and hopefully have a good time while they're at it.

Well, when people dance in public settings like Top 40 nightclubs and weddings and office parties, the DJ will often also play an urban line dance or two. Since this is a dance party portal and not a competition, lesson, or performance website, many people looking for the kinds of events that this portal can lead to will probably also have some opportunities to participate in urban line dancing, and because of that, they may be interested in picking up some line dance steps to add to their repertoires.
