We waited a very long time for a girl like Astrid to come along and we plotted her breeding with our best friends Beth Tilson (Highlander Bearded Collies) and Shannon Smart (Cadence Bearded Collies) with excitement. The last born of nine, she was bossy and hungry from her first breath. We were thrilled to bring home this smart, sassy, and sweet girl.
The product of the 2012 BCCA National Specialty winner and the 2008 BCCA National Puppy Sweepstakes winner/2017 BCCA National Specialty Best Opposite Sex winner, Astrid has a pedigree rich in successful conformation dogs AND brilliant performance dogs. Together they have given us a stunning mix of beauty and brains!
Astrid has from the beginning shown us she has the talent to become one special herding dog. She breezed through her PT at 10 months old with compliments from both judges about what a nice working dog she is. Her HSAs title was finished just prior to 22 months old and with a Reserve High in Trial win as well! Clinicians and judges alike have commented on her talent and innate stock sense. Best yet, she continues to prove that she's a useful farm dog doing real work on the ranch. In late 2016, Astrid was the first beardie to complete the Farm Dog Certified title!
Astrid finished her championship with breed wins over specials already under her belt and a Best in Sweepstakes at the Rocky Mountain Bearded Collie show under breeder-judge Jill Floberg.
She earned her rally novice obedience title at 10 months old in three consecutive trials with all 2nd places, followed by her rally advanced title with two 1sts and a 2nd, and her rally excellent title was completed at the 2016 BCCA National with a score of 95! At 20 months she placed in three consecutive trials to finish her Beginner Novice obedience title. On top of that, she qualified for the AKC Rally National Championship.
Astrid has continued to demonstrate her versatility, finishing her grand championship, continuing to excel in the herding and obedience rings, and proving herself a most devoted brood bitch in the whelping box.
In 2023 Astrid and I achieved a big goal, completing her Companion Dog (CD) obedience title (with three 1st places!) - Astrid was the winner of the BCCA Novice A Obedience medallion/high scoring new titleholder. She also began trialing in scentwork and garnered a Novice High in Trial at her 2nd trial! At the 2023 BCCA National Specialty, in her first outing as a veteran, Astrid was awarded Best Veteran Bitch and an Award of Merit - this also qualified her for Crufts!
We are thrilled beyond belief with how much this little girl has done; she has taken over my heart with her wicked sense of humor and drive to work.
"Very nice proportions. Feminine head and expression. Very nice neck and topline. Good angles and very nice on the move...." -- Breeder-judge Charlotte Laning Vrethammar, 2015 NCBCF Specialty
"This is a pretty girl who is also a balanced mover. Love her length." -- Judge Gail Miller Bisher, 2015 BCCA National Specialty
