Before installing the 11g Grid install following setup needs to be carried out following setups need to be carried out
1. Network Setups
a) InterConnect –Need to be configured on UDP on a high speed LAN.
b) Provide 2 VIP names for public interface. X Node
c) Provide 1 Private Hostname to be bounded with interconnect IP
d) 1 SCAN name to be configured at DNS this DNS entry should be resolved to three VIPs and shouldn’t be assigned and in the same subnet mask as assigned VIPs
2. Storage Requirements ( as per database size)
a) 1DG Data 1 TB
b) 1 DG Flash 250 GB
c) 1 DG LOG 20 GB
d) 1 DG OCR and VD 20 GB
e) 1 TB Local Disk available in Node 1
f) 40 GB Local FS for Software
For Grid Installation preparing disks before grid installation is required as we will be using ASM as file system management solution.
After Network and Storage is setup we are good to go
The 11202 Installer can be downloaded as patch 10098816.
Before Installing Grid ,the under lying cluster should be verified using runcluvfy
sh runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n catom-nrdbpcl01,catom-nrdbpcl02 -fixup -verbose
To run the above first a user with same name and group should be created in Node 2 and “ssh” should be set between the servers.
Ensure that clufy gives a clean output before starting the install.
Start the installer
Skip software update and press Next.
Choose first option
Choose advanced installation.
Choose required language
Provide the Cluster name (any), SCAN name configured as a part of N/W setups and an empty port desired to be used as SCAN port
Configure the node names. Use Add key to add all the cluster db nodes.
Select the N/W interfaces
Select File System S/Ware to be used. ASM is being used so select first option and press next.
Select OCR disk as configured in storage setup
Select user and group owning Grid
Check the Prerequisite checks output and correct any error showing up
Input the oraInventory location

Run the script as root
Grid infrastructure complete
In Node 2 the root.sh fails with issues documented in 1279657.1.
The patch to fix this issue is 10420872
After this patch root.sh should complete normally in Node 2.After the root.sh completes GRID services will start in Node2 .
Then as per Oracle recommendation 11.2.0.2.5 Grid Infrastructure Patch Set Update (GI PSU) Yes Patch:13653086 should be applied on both the nodes and subsequent RDBMS homes
Note the patch is a special one and the note # 13653086.8 should be followed to apply this patch.
After applying this patch and once services on both the nodes comes back Grid Installation is complete
Installing RAC DB Home 11g
After successful installation of Grid Infrastructure we should be good to install the 11gR2(11.2.0.2) RDBMS Home with RAC Option.
Note that it would be a S/Ware only installation and provide the Oracle Binary for Cutover Upgradation.
To Install RAC RDBMS home Grid should be up and running in both the nodes.
At the end of Installation there are setoff Interoperability patches and Grid PSU patch that needs to be applied.
Startup the installer
Un-check and press next
Skip software updates and press next
On Installation options screen, choose "Oracle Real Applications cluster database instalaltion
click on test to check he ssh connectivity.
Select all the DB nodes involved
Select software-only install
Choose Enterprise Edition
Put RDBMS Home Location which should be available on both the servers
Choose owner groups

Run the root.sh on both nodes
After Root.sh is installed apply GSU patch
11.2.0.2.5 Grid Infrastructure Patch Set Update (GI PSU) Patch:13653086 should be applied on both the RDBMS homes
Note the patch is a special one and the note # 13653086.8 should be followed to apply this patch.
After GSU Patches apply the following R12 Inter-Operability patches with 11g
