Sept - 2014 (and "thank you" letter, combined)

Post date: Sep 24, 2014 3:08:29 PM

An open letter to all of Oklahoma disc golfers.

It is with enthusiasm, thankfulness, and joy that you voted to have me as your next state coordinator. I would like to specifically thank Michael Treat, who will be a mentor in this area for the next two years, to help guide me through the ropes. Mike is going to pursue course improvements in our state, something that needed attention and he is hearing the call, something that all of us can lend a hand in achieving.

I’m honored at each and every one of your votes.

I have committed to one 2-year term. My professional, family, and educational pursuits will dictate my time more than anything else.

Here is my “early” vision for what I would like to accomplish in the next two years;

• Continue with the functional role of state coordinator, and all its duties.

• Continue to grow, and strengthen, our relationships with DG companies, local municipalities, and the PDGA.

• Continue to improve our courses, with the help of dedicated individuals who want to provide the best DG experience in the country.

• Establish a monthly column/article, which will be published here in Oklahoma Disc Golf, which will consist of relevant DG talking points, and maybe even answer a couple of questions in the meantime.

• Meet all the local club leaders, and build rapport with them.

I have one other personal goal that I would like to accomplish in the next two years, I would like to have Tulsa/OKC host a “thank you” tournament open to wounded veterans/firefighters/law enforcement. Completely free to them, supported by individuals in our community (state). This has been on my mind for some time, and I believe we can do it.

Lastly, I have asked one particular individual to help me in the OKC region,Billy Engel, whom is a solid young leader; Billy will help me in various ae, and I look forward to working with him. Keep your eye on that kid.

Thank you all again, I look forward to serving the community, and consider this a privilege.

As a state, we are gearing up for the final weeks of prime disc golf season. Already, this month, OK has hosted the 7th Annual Lodge Teams event, 11th Annual Twisted Flyer Open, and the 9th Annual Jeremy Martin Memorial. Gearing up for the remainder of the month, we have the 12th Annual Crow Throw, as well as a Joshua Family fundraiser, amongst other local favorite events like the Night Flights series that Wayne Forest holds. The Women's USDGC had local OK Pro Tara Why participate in it this year, finishing in 27th place

Next month, October, holds several very fun events; Ace Races, club picnics (and elections), the 14th Annual Oklahoma Open. The OO is arguably the largest sanctioned tournament that we hold every year barring the 2014 US Masters already this year).

As this website continues to be improved, I am dedicated to getting a "records" site built, where OK records, historic player information, and club history can also be built out. This will take some time, and will not happen over night, If you have information on OK DG history, I'd like to hear it.

So, get ready for some beautiful Fall disc golf, it's my favorite time of year to play! I hope you all have a wonderful month.

Keep an eye out on the USDGC next month as well, who do you think will take away that prestigious title this year?
