An opportunity to gain autonomy and confidence in the practice of Family Medicine
A family medicine experience in a rural community
A mandatory portion of your FM residency at U of T
A chance to get out of the city and see what it's like to practice for real
2 consecutive blocks in R2 year are allotted to TP
The timing of your TP will depend on your choice/rank list
Choose this timing wisely
Ensure that you keep in mind the scheduling of your CFPC examinations, interviews if you are thinking about a +1 fellowship year, and the weather in your chosen community
To apply for vacation during TP, use the form below. The form is also found on Portal
Multiple communities around Ontario, as far east as Red Lake, and westward toward Moose Factory
You choose! Your rank list should take into account your personal situation, your particular interests (i.e. Do you like doing obstetrics? Choose a community where the preceptors do many deliveries.)
If you already have a site in mind that is rural and where you would be able to gain the "FULL" Family Medicine experience but is not listed on the U of T site list, you are still able to submit an application to complete your TP in that chosen community
See below for the application for self-initiated TP. This is also found on Portal
Be sure to watch the videos on the DFCM website outlining different communities
Don't miss the deadlines!
Don't worry - if you get matched to a site that you're not thrilled about, there is an allotted time to swap with other residents
Most importantly, have fun. This is a fantastic opportunity to get your feet wet, see a different community and live a little bit like an independently practicing family doc
