3/8/2010: Joe Gittens, Standards Manager for the Security Industry Assocation, today announced that SIA is kicking off an effort to develop an additional consensus standard for IP reporting: DC-10. From the standards proposal:
"This standard details the protocol and related details to report events from premises equipment to a central station using Internet protocol (IP) to carry the event content. It is intended for event transport from protected premises to a central station - using the public Internet or private networks.
70% of event traffic is currently handled by receivers that support the proposed protocol. Publication of the standard will open up implementation of the protocol beyond the current proprietary applications. The standard will ensure that premises equipment and central station equipment developed by different organizations are interoperable. Managing the protocol as an ANSI standard ensures that a wide variety of stakeholders have input to and access to the protocol."
