Halflings

Halflings are found all over Norindaal, generally where humans are found. They never form large cities of their own, but live in outposts and villages near humans. They are generally on friendly terms with Wood Elves, Humans, and especially Gnomes, with whom they share a connection with Nature and the desire to live a simple life.

Adventuring, “fighting” Halflings are rare. Regular villagers are peaceful folks who hate unexpected occurrences and prefer leading a well regulated, tranquil life with as few surprises as possible. But when the going gets tough, the Halfling can muster an effective militia despite their diminutive size.

An unusual troop type that can sometimes be found in Halfling contingents is the Paddy-Field Watchmen. These are guardians of rice-fields, able to move quickly in the flooded fields and wetlands where Halflings grow rice and other, semi-aquatic cereals (like the famous "sweet grain" that they use in pastries and cakes). They use their slings to keep out trespassers and shoo dangerous wild animals. They are easily recognizable because of the large straw hats they wear.

In the Sun-Kissed Vale in An-Mòr, halflings of the Outpost (a frontier village near the land of the fungi folk) have a standing force of a few spearmen clad in leafsteel armor and employing sturdy oak shields. The Halflings themselves are not able to manufacture the Leafsteel jerkins. They trade jams, sausages, cheese, and vegetables with the Wood Elves of Arbas Laria in exchange of suits of Leafsteel armor.
