You are invited to play in a new Nolaria Game Setting based in the barony of Mahan, part of the kingdom of Norberg. We will be using the Roll20 tabletop game application and the Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition (5e) rules. See Mahan Start-up for back ground and the instructions on creating a character.
The game starts in the rather grimy town of Insdell, a center for ore extraction and metalworking. Insdell is about 40 miles north of Marcoux, which is the capital of Norberg and home to the royal family. As an industry town, there a lot of low paid (though often skilled) workers. There are a number of bars and eating places where it's easy to meet people. One of these, The Black Skillet, is a known hangout for people seeking adventure. The beer is not great, but the food is pretty good, if limited. You hear a rumor that someone is looking for talented people willing to take a few risks. Gold and treasure is hinted at.
Norberg is a human society based on agriculture, fishing, and various craft industries. For the most part (except for the occasional political event), the kingdom has been at peace for quite some time. While simple magic is fairly common, more advanced magics are only practiced by spell wielders, who learn their skills through study (Wizard), a patron (Warlock), or some esoteric source (Sorcerer). Wizards are by far the most common form of mage and there are several well established schools in Norberg.
The founding of Norberg as a kingdom was based in religious persecution. A small group of Omiists fled a power empire to the east and made their way to their current location. As such, the worship of Omi is the dominant religion here. Omiism is a mono-theistic religion. All other religions are subject to persecution or even arrest, depending on the situation. Non-humans are looked on with suspicion.
