Coming soon...
"Hidden" ("reverse-facing") bolts...these two secure the engine gussets to the transmission...there's also a bolt below the oil sending unit that secures the block to the transmission...these "kept" me from separating the engine from the tranny, and "caused" me to mess up part of the firewall and bend that water tube...don't forget about them! If it feels stuck, it is!!!
Dirty...
Cleaner...(i'll have to take some better pics, the after ones I have now didn't expose quite right!)
"Cleaner"...get it? Props to my brother for this little gem, it came in VERY handy and made short work of the grime!
Front cover seal and gasket arrived...
Yup, definitely wanna put sealer on those bottom 3 bolts...and prolly wanna drain the gear oil first next time!
Cover off...
Pried the old seal out (carefully), and got everything good and clean!
New seal driven in, 1-1/4" socket worked perfectly!
Front cover (and gasket, no sealer--gulp) installed...
Release bearing and arm installed!
Not pretty but I didn't want this to drag on any longer! I did put some sealer on the rips in the boot, which I'm pretty sure I caused when I tried to get the release lever off BEFORE taking the boot off...don't do that!
Loaded up and ready-to-go!
I'll post this now, until I can get the pics up...of course the install was annoying...got the transmission "close" to being in place, then realized (Bo) that a 2nd jack would make things easier/possible...went to autozone, agreed not to pay the $39.99, so went to the "shop" to get one of the jacks there...definitely came in handy, as did the prybar we also brought back...but by that time, the sealer had probably dried up...i'm not gonna pull it back out "just" for the sealer...hopefully it compresses enough to not make a difference, i'll redo it when i do the solid axle conversion! Oh, needed the prybar to get the bellhousing part to clear the front driveshaft! Go, Bo!
Transmission bolts, well, some of them...
Had to get creative!(The engine "plates" weren't properly aligned, so I had to jack the smaller one up to get the gusset bolt to thread into the transmission!)
