As of Thursday, January 24th, 2013, you can no longer dispose of TVs or computers with your regular trash. Pennsylvania's Covered Device Recycling Act is now in effect, and requires the proper recycling of all TVs and computer equipment, including items such as computer monitors, central processing units (CPUs), laptops, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, speakers, and any other devices that connect to a computer.
Visit the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for more information, or call its toll-free hot line at 1.800.346.4242 with questions about electronic recycling. There are a variety of electronics collections programs at manufacturer and retail locations, as well as public recycling drop-off locations in Allegheny County. For drop-off locations in other Pennsylvania counties, visit the DEP website. You also may search Earth911.com to find a recycling center near you.
Please note that electronic recycling from homes and small businesses (fewer than 50 employees) is free.
