Cold Weather Precautions
Cold Weather Precautions
Take precautions to keep plumbing fixtures or pipes on outside walls warm. When temperatures are below freezing, leave under sink cabinet doors open so room heat can warm the plumbed areas. These precautions can also apply to laundry areas.
Leave water trickling – both hot and cold.
Locate your Units water cut-off valve in order to turn off the water flow if a water pipe should break.
Leave the heat on. Do not shut off the heat when leaving home. A thermostat setting of at least 65 degrees should keep your Unit adequately warm to prevent freezing problems.
In case of a power outage, keep essentials on hand: flashlights, portable radios are handy. Never bring a barbecue or gas grill into your Unit as a source of light or heat. The fumes are deadly.
Be sure all areas surrounding heaters (wall, baseboard, or free-standing) are completely clear to avoid potential fire risks.
Be extremely careful in the exterior common areas during unpredictable cold weather. Ice and frost can be present on stairs, sidewalks, and parking lots, especially during the night and early morning times. Be cautious.
