Vice Chancellor

I visualize a very brilliant future of AWK University which would cater for the needs of thousands of young scholars whose rich intellectual potentialities have not been hitherto allowed to develop properly due to non existence of opportunities. The university would attract the students from Mardan, Swabi, Nowsehra, Charsadda, Swat, Shangla, Dir, Bunair, Chitral, Northern Punjab, Kohat, Southern parts of NWFP, and the extensive Tribal region along the boundaries of the Province. These dynamic and youthful minds of the region will certainly contribute to make AWK University Mardan a true seat of learning and citadel of peace, serenity and harmony for joining together the vast empire of human society and would eliminate the menace of ignorance, poverty and disease from this Pak Land of ours.

The youth will be fired with evolutionary insight for developing a culture of creative and research oriented thinking through collaboration with the prestigious universities of the world for sharing the rapidly expanding horizons of modern knowledge in Basic and Applied Sciences besides acquiring technical ingenuity.

I still vividly recall my first appointment as Vice Chancellor, Hazara University on the 20th May, 2006. The Campus of the University was completely ruined and presented a gloomy and woeful look of some Archaeological sites caused by the devastating earthquake of 2005. We immediately started the classes in tents and expedited the construction work of the prefab buildings. Hazara University was reopened on the 22nd of May, 2006. The classes were started in tents by bracing the extreme weather condition of the area. Meanwhile the damaged buildings were got repaired on emergency footing within a couple of months. The prefabricated structure was also miraculously completed and the classes were moved to the safe location. In order to accommodate the great influx of the students we managed to establish Havelian and Haripur campuses which solved the problem of congestion at the Garden Campus. Moreover the students of Haripur and Abbottabad districts were provided the facilities

of higher education in their home towns. It is worth mentioning that opening of the two new campuse at Havelian & Haripur was through University is managed within the existent funds. We attracted 62 PhD faculties from all over the country to the rural location of the main campus at Dhodial besides sending 35 scholars for PhD studies in the famous universities of UK, America, Australia and Japan.

In my eventful and dedicated career, I have the rare distinction of establishing 06 Museums in NWFP namely Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at university of Peshawar, Kalash Museum at Bamburit, Pushkalawati Museum-Charsadda, Hund Museum-Swabi, Mardan Museum, Gurkhutlree Museum Peshawar in addition to the extension of Peshawar Museum and Dir Museum at Chakdara. Under the Govt. of NWFP lately the two Museums i.e

    • 1 Garden-Campus, Hazara University, Mansehra,

    • 2 Abbot Museum Abbotabad

This founding Vice Chancellor of AWK University Mardan as a Professor of Archaeology had traveled worldwide and delivered lectures on History and Culture of the region in the famous universities of the USA, UK, Europe and Japan.

The Gandhara Civilization with its birth place in the area around Mardan, disseminated the fine culture and civilization based on learning and scholarship throughout the world, particularly China, Korea and Japan through generation of new knowledge evolved at a host of institutions in this region at the time.

I appeal to all those at the helm of affairs to join us in this gigantic noble task of national importance to make this University one great seat of learning. We wish this University flourish and prosper. May Allah help and guide us to embark on the golden road map of success.

MESSAGE The establishment of AWK University Mardan has been the most significant achievement of NWFP Government. I feel it a personal honour for bestowing unique trust of being appointed as pioneer Vice Chancellor. This area had been the centre of heroic activities in shaping and moulding one of the greatest civilizations, i.e. the Gandharan Civilization. I firmly believe that like Mythical Phoenix the area would emerge from the ashes of history with all its past glory of bright culture and great civilization of enlightenment and moderation by setting up a fine apparatus of quality education and research in higher education.

I have to build everything from scratch in this period of hard financial recession but I have strong faith and belief in Almighty Allah for Divine guidance and assistance to overcome the problem and achieve the noble goal of realizing our cherished hope of Human Resource Development. Providing the administrative, academic and research infrastructure for a new university is a great challenge and I welcome it. Being the son of the soil and having vast experience at my credit of interacting with institutions of higher education at national and international level, God has gifted me with unparalleled strength to arrange for all the states-of-art facilities relating to modern scientific and technical disciplines which should be both a bulwark against rival forces and a viable source of power for economic emancipation of the country to safeguard national integrity.
