Adult Devon Rex Rehoming
We dont have any adults for rehoming at present
Please see below for info about the way we re-home a cat and why.
Adult Rehoming
We do not over breed from our Devon Rex and they are spayed about the age of 5 to 6 years. This allows them to still be young enough to go off and find a new home where they will be happy and settled and live as a pet for maybe the next 10 years or more.
Our Devon Rex girls have all spent time in the house and are litter trained and used to children. An adult cat is often a better option if you are out at work all day, as they require a bit less time and attention than a kitten - but remember - they may not need to be amused like a little kitten but they still like lots of fuss!
We prefer our cats to go to indoor homes as they have never been free to roam and will not have developed any "road sense". Obviously we cannot enforce this in a new home but you need to really think over letting a cat outside before you do it, a road that may seem quiet most of the time can still be busy at certain times of the day and it only takes one car to kill or seriously injure a cat. Stray dogs or dogs that are loose in a neighbours garden can pose a threat - if the cat goes into the garden and the dogs attack it and kill it the neighbour is unlikely to tell you (this happened to a friend of mine - so be aware!) Other cats can attack your cat, your cat can go into other peoples houses or sheds and get shut in, they can get stolen, shot or ill treated by passers-by ( we thought my neighbours cat had been hit by a car and injured until we looked at her CCTV recording from the front of her house and saw a teenage girl kick the cat in the face as it walked up to her for a fuss). Think it through very carefully - just because it hasn't happened to you before doesnt mean it never will - my mothers cat lived happily for 8 years going in and out as he pleased - then a car hit him and she found him near death in the middle of the road and he had to be put to sleep, which was a massive shock after 8 years of nothing ever happening.
Some people wonder if the cat will be happy indoors all the time but quite honestly - you cannot miss what you never had!! Lots of toys, food, water, litter, a scratch post and someone to love and be loved by is plenty to keep a cat happy.
If you think you could give reason a lovely home please Contact Us
We sometimes have rescued Devons available, sometimes they have problems and have not been well cared for but usually they have belonged to people who for some tragic reason such as a death in the family, death of the owner, loss of income, loss of home etc can no longer keep them. If you would like us to hang on to your details until an adult Devon is available let us know. We rarely have to advertise them - they usually go home to suitable people on the waiting list. The Rex Cat Club and the Rex Cat Association also sometimes have cats to re-home so please google them and get in touch
