Feeding Your Kitten

Diet sheet

Neskrex Devon Rex kittens are fed on Royal Canin kitten food called Babycat 34 and Supreme kitten food.

These are dry foods.

They also have one meal of meat in the morning in the form of Iams wet kitten food

This is so that your kitten will eat a variety of foods rather than being a fussy eater, it also gives you a choice about what to feed your kitten.

When you collect your kitten you will be given a kitten pack which contains starter packs of all these foods so that you can continue to feed your kitten with the same food as he or she settles into their new home.

Your kitten has been fed two small meals of wet food each day one in the morning and one in the evening half a sachet per meal is enough.

Royal Canin kitten food Babycat 34 and Arden Grange kitten food have been made available 24 hours a day so that the kitten can eat whenever he or she feels hungry. Kittens have very tiny stomachs so eating little and often whenever they want to is best for them.

If you would like to wean your kitten off wet food and feed him entirely on dry food – it is easy to do: Halve the amount of wet food per meal and mix an equal part of dry food with it, do this for two days, then gradually over the following few days reduce the amount of meat and increase the amount of dry food until you are not feeding any meat at all. Always continue to leave dry kitten food available 24 hours per day in a separate dish – a hungry kitten will become unhappy, distressed and cry a lot.

It is essential that kittens are fed a good quality kitten food until they are around 1 year old. Kitten food contains extra protein and nutrients to help kittens develop into strong healthy cats.

A good quality kitten food may seem expensive when you look at the price but the fact is that it actually works out cheaper in the long run because:

Cheap food contains cheap ingredients; the kitten has to eat two to three times as much food before his body has obtained the right amount of goodness. This means he will produce two to three times more waste getting rid of all the junk he has had to eat – Yes that’s right he will “poo” more if he eats cheap food meaning you will have to buy two to three times more cat litter and clean the tray two to three times more often!!! As well as supplying two to three times more food in the first place!

A good quality food also means a healthy well-grown cat which will age well, maintain a good body weight, and require less trips to the Vet in later life.
