Pogrebishche Holocaust Memorial

Ceremony marking the completion of the Pogrebishche Holocaust Memorial

These five photographs of the restored Pogrebishche Holocaust Memorial were taken by Faina Breydburd at the ceremony dedicating the restored Memorial on August 25. 2010. If you compare these to my original photos of the Memorial from May 2009, you can see that the previous earthen, weed-infested surface of the Memorial has been replaced by a solid concrete encasement. The remains of the several hundred Jews who were massacred in the Black Ravine below, in October 1941, are now therefore properly sealed off for years to come from vandals and from the elements. May their souls rest in peace.

The Russian inscription on the Memorial stone reads as follows:

Here lie buried persons killed by the Fascists October 19-23, 1941.
