Introducing Larry Nachshen

INTRODUCING LARRY NACHSHEN

PRESIDENT OF THE MAIMONIDES GERIATRIC CENTRE FOUNDATION

(From "Prespective", newsletter of Friends of Maimonides Geriatric Centre. Spring 2003)

Passionate and Dedicated. Those two words describe Larry Nachshen in his new position as President of the Maimonides Geriatric Centre Foundation. "As board members, we are ambassadors for Maimonides and perform an ever-evolving job as fundraisers. We are there to let the community know what we do and inform it about the award-winning programs." Larry didn't offer his time to Maimonides by chance. The institution holds a special place in his heart. His father was a resident here five years ago and his mother was a frequent visitor to the Helen and Sam Steinberg Geriatric Day Hospital.Larry began volunteering at Maimonides about four years ago. He first served as a member of the Foundation board and was soon asked to be the Chair of the golf committee, responsible for the Foundation's largest fundraising event. Larry has given countless hours to the Foundation.

His philosophy is simple: Maimonides is important and people need to know about it. In turn, he says, the whole community benefits.

Larry is an equally dedicated family man, happily married to his wife Margaret. They have two children, Jennifer and Mark. Larry is also a very successful businessman, and is President of the Petrovest Group, a company that deals with the financing and administration of petroleum projects. He is also chairman of Fairstar Explorations Inc, a Toronto Stock Exchange listed gold mining exploration company.

At 65, some might say it was time to retire but not Larry. At this stage in his life, he is doing exactly what he wants to do. And the Foundation is benefiting from his wealth of knowledge and experience.
