MINI-LESSON
You may have noticed that the first poem and the second poem on the last page were very different from one another. The first one was long, the second one was short. The first one rhymed, the second one didn't. There are all kinds of poems. So many people think that all poems have to rhyme, remember that is not true. Notice with the poems that you have already read and the ones that you will read, that all poems tell some kind of story or send a message. I bet there is something else that you noticed about the first poem....it is actually the words from a book! Yes, poetry can be a part of a book, or in this case, the entire book was written as a poem. There are many ways in which different types of writing work together.
Journal Entry
Write an entry titled entry two. Write two or three sentences telling which poem you liked better and why. Then write one or two sentences telling what you learned about poetry in the mini-lesson.
This journal entry is worth 2 points. All journal entries are due together on day 3 (see schedule on the left side bar).
