So, we have been talking a lot about "voice" in poetry. Let's go deeper into that. So far, you have written two poems. Think about what you said in your poems. What was your message in each? Did you write about something or someone you love? Did you write about someone or something that makes you happy, sad, or mad? Did you write about a vacation you took, things you enjoy doing, something you want to do someday? There are SO many things to write about.
Now I want you to think about the world around you. Think about the "small picture", such as you and your home and family. Now think a little bigger, maybe your school, groups you are involved in, or your community. Now think really big, think about the whole country and then the whole world. Wow, this is a lot to think about!
Now think about what things are important to you. Maybe when you thought about the "small picture" it is important to you to spend time with people you love, or maybe you want to improve at something like a specific subject in school or hobby. But I want you to think big! What issues are important to you in the world? There are a lot of important things for us to think about in the world, a lot of things that need to be changed in order to make our world a better place. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE TO YOU? What do you want to use your voice to tell the world about change you want to see happen? This is a big part of your next assignment.
