In this module we are going to read chapters fourteen through eighteen. In this module you will have two assignments.
Part one:
We will be using the "inferring/drawing conclusions" skill. After you have read chapter eighteen you will will use your journal to write 5 statements in which you infer something or draw a conclusion.
Part two:
Here you have a choice. Choose one of the options below:
A. Choose a partner or small group of no more than three and have a discussion about what you have read so far. Please be careful not to spoil anything for your partner if you have read ahead. Click on the graphic organizer tab at the bottom of the page and fill out one for each group. This will help you guide your discussion. You will be talking about the skills you have used so far (predict, question, visualize/using sense, and inferring/drawing conclusions.) You may of course, discuss anything else about the book that you want to share, but the graphic organizer will tell you the things that you MUST do.
B. Create a venn diagram comparing your predictions from module one and what has happened actually happened in the book so far. Also, please write three new predictions you have. If you are keeping a paper journal, please complete this assignment in there. If you are keeping an e-journal, just complete this on a single sheet of paper and hand it in to me. This assignment is to be done individually.
C. If you choose this assignment you may work alone, with a partner, or a group pf three. I will provide you with ten cards. Each will have a word or phrase on it. You will brainstorm words, phrases, questions, association, and pictures that come to mind about what is written on the card. For instance, if the card says "Katniss" I might write "main character," "brave," "girl on fire," "bow and arrow," and maybe I would draw a picture of what I think she looks like. There is no right or wrong answers for your associations with each word or phrase I will give you. You might choose to do it in a different way, you might tell a mini story with the word "Katniss" like this: "Main character," "sister of Prim, daughter, caretaker," "volunteered for hunger games," etc.... This assignment lets you be creative while still working on associations (which will help you with comprehension.)
