Now that you have completed the anticipation guide, we are going to have a whole class discussion. We will talk about:
What do you think it would be like to live in a world such as this?
What do you think the title means?
What are your thoughts and predictions about the book?
Anything else that comes up in conversation.
In module one we are going to read chapters one through four. We will read chapter one together (I will read some, and I will ask for volunteers to read aloud.) We will stop a few times to talk about what you are reading. I want you to see how stopping to "talk it out" as you read can help you with comprehension. We will read together periodically throughout this unit, and have discussions.
We have already used several comprehension skills. By using the anticipation guide and discussing our thoughts before we read, we prepared ourselves to understand the book better. Now we are going to do a simple comprehension exercise. We are going to use the "predict" skill. We already used this in our class discussion before we began to read. Now I want you to see that you can continue to predict as you read. In your journal write three or four predictions that you have about the book. I want you to do this TWICE - after you read chapter one AND after you read chapter four.
