Dear Students,

 

I hope you had a terrific summer.  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to my Physical Science class as well as to Langston Hughes. I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year. I have high expectations for you. I believe every student can achieve these high expectations with the support of the family and teacher. To that end, I want to ensure that you know how to locate the wide variety of resources available to you and that you are aware of and have easy access to the policies and regulations that pertain to you as a student. Please search this site as it has very valuable information that will help you be successful in Physical Science.

 

 

The Curriculum areas we will focus on this year include Chemistry and Physics. Our Physical Science class will focus on enhancing the following:

• Following safety procedures in a laboratory

• Solving a problems using the scientific method

• Understanding scientific knowledge will change as new information is discovered

 •Classifying Matter and the Properties of Matter

• Atoms & the Periodic Table

• The Law of Conservation of matter

 

You are expected to come prepared to class everyday on time with the following supplies:

• 2 working writing utensils

• Loose leaf or notebook paper

• Designated Science folder or a designated Science section in a binder (AVID)

• Planner (used for Restroom/Clinic passes)

• Colored pencils/ highlighter/glue sticks)

Participation points will be awarded on a daily basis for coming to class with ALL supplies and participating in class discussions etc. Please secure a quiet place to study/do homework and the necessary school supplies.
