Introduction: Do you have what it takes to be a U.S. citizen? Can you meet the same requirements for naturalization? Many times we as “natural” born citizens fail to recognize our responsibilities and obligations as U.S. citizens. Additionally, we don’t have a basic knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government, even after 12 years of schooling. FYI, Immigrants seeking citizenship must take the full version of the USCIS test- 100 questions. Additionally, immigrants in taking the actual test are asked only 10 questions verbally by the INS officer, but they must know and study all 100. Scroll down to test options for test link.
Background & Justification: Why are you taking this test? The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) naturalization test relates directly to the following DCSD Learning Goal and Benchmarks:
Learning Goal: Understand the development of civic responsibility and the influence of history, geography, government, and economics on individuals and societies.
Benchmarks- History:
a. (D.3/11) Understand the past, development, change, and growth of the United States society.
b. (D.3/12) Understand the changes in the United States during the 20th century.
Instructions: Test is an online test and students may take this as may times as they wish for a better grade. This test is required for American Government students but optional for other classes. For AmGovt students see syllabus for due date. For Experience Learning (EL) students this test is due due three days before the start of finals. All students (AmGovt & EL) must turn in a sheet of paper indicating that they completed this assignment and their score.
Note: 1) This a student "discovery" test meaning these may not be covered in class or the text book. Students learn these topics by taking the test itself because they are told the correct answer after taking it along with their score. 2) You must answer all the questions to get a score and see what questions you missed and why.
