I have found that I benefit and engage most with educational instruction if it is presented visually. So I have sought out opportunities in my workplace to supplement instruction for students and faculty with simple, yet clear visual instruction. I usually use Camtasia which allows screencast video manipulation with audio narration, and useful callouts.
A recent project that I have been working on is an on-boarding/training program for new staff. One area that I aimed to include was a series of tutorials for new staff to learn some of the administrative tasks, including, the grading procedure used across the department with a specific Microsoft Excel file. Below you can see the finished tutorial and the script I created for this project. I scripted this tutorial, because it is a series of videos, and I wanted to include a table of contents so faculty could easily navigate to the section they needed guidance with.
One of the challenges for foreign faculty is navigating the university's LMS in a foreign language (Korean). This is an essential task to understand because they are expected to upload syllabus, print out attendance sheets, and submit grades during the semester. Although there is English translation for some portions of the LMS it is not always accurate. Here is a quick video that I made to demonstrate how to copy a previous semester's syllabus, freeing up more time for faculty.
