John Briggs born 1888, Newlands  (census 1901) or Hesket (Census 1891) Cumberland 

Father Edward b. 1856 an Agricultural labourer  married his mother Mary b.1856  a general servant in1881.

In the 1891 census they are living at Whinfell Park Cottage, Whinfell, Brougham with

Father Edward is working as a farm general servant at Castle House Scar Shap both parents state they are married

Can't find John on 1911 census. 

Did he emigrate to Montreal 12 May 1912 on the Grampian from Liverpool- JB aged 24 Labourer or 1911 with some Hodgsons on the Virginian?

The parents are remembered on a gravestone in Morland Churchyard:
