John is lodging at the Golden Cock Hotel, Tubwell Row, Darlington. He is single and working as a Turf Commission Agent.

Enlisted into the army at Darlington, age 29 years and 96 days, height 5' 5". (Age should be 34 if his census dates are correct)
He was posted to the Durham Light Infantry at South Shields on 29 Aug 1914.
His service record notes that he served in England until 15 Aug 1916 and was then posted to France on 16 Aug 1916.
On 13 Oct 1916 he received a shell wound in the left shoulder and was admitted to hospital. He rejoined his battalion on 17 Oct 1916.
On 17 Jan 1917 he received multiple shell wounds to the legs and was admitted to hospital where he died at 2.30 pm the following day.

Mrs Regan, Schoolhouse Morland received a letter on Tuesday from a sister in charge of one of the clearing stations in France conveying the sad news that her husband, Corporal JP Regan Durham Light Infantry had died of wounds on 18th January. He was admitted to hospital the previous day suffering gunshot wounds in both thighs.
His widow (known as Margo) continued as teacher at Morland School and lived on High Street until her death in 1981. She is buried in Morland Churchyard plaque to ME Regan 1883-1981
