There’s a web page devoted the Glenkindie, the first UXD5 put into public service, in 1979, at https://blog.nms.ac.uk/2015/12/09/memories-of-the-glenkindie-telephone-exchange/
This states that the initiative and development was by BT Labs at Martlesham Heath, Suffolk.
Services available on UXD5 exchanges at https://www.btplc.com/Thegroup/BTsHistory/1969to1980/1979.htm
There were (maybe still are) around 500 UXD5s in Britain (mainly Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and 107 in Kenya (https://www.cbronline.com/news/bt_to_supply_kenya_with_digital_telephone_exchanges/)
Technical report at http://dope.org/9x/uk/misctext/UXD5B.TXT
I have a recollection that although the UXD5 was fully digital, its network interface was purely analogue, which prevented the use of Star Services and other functionalities. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
