Moving & Temporary Closure FAQ
When will the M.N. Spear Library close?
Soon. We will post the date here and send out announcements as soon as we have confirmed a date.
How long will the Library be closed?
The Library will be closed for three to four weeks to allow us to move collections and furnishings into the new Shutesbury Public Library.
During this time, physical items in the M.N. Spear/Shutesbury Public Library will not be available and Library staff will not be available to assist library users.
All virtual services — including Libby, Kanopy, Hoopla, and Ompractice will remain available with your library card.
How do I contact the Library during the closure?
We will not be able to provide regular library services during the closure. For answers to questions or to renew items, check availability of materials and request items, please contact another local library. A list of nearby libraries is included at the end of this message.
Our phone may be unavailable during the closure.

Responses to emails will be slower than usual during this time.
How do I return items while the Library is closed?
Please hold all Shutesbury Library items until we reopen. We do not charge fines.
Items belonging to other libraries may be returned to any local public library.
Will the book drop be available?
No. The book drop will be closed.
Please return Shutesbury Library items after we reopen.
Items borrowed from other libraries may be returned to any local public library.
Can I pick up an item on hold or an inter-library loan while you are closed?
No. Our collections and inter-library loan items will be unavailable during the closure.
The M.N. Spear Memorial Library / Shutesbury Public Library will not be available as a pick-up location from during the closure.
If you are already waiting for an item, you will not lose your place in line. Holds placed before closure that are not transferred to another library will be available for pick up at the new library upon opening.
How do I access my account or change my pickup location?
· Go to https://shutesbury.cwmars.org/
· Click SIGN IN (top right).
· Log in with your 14-digit library card number.
Your PIN is typically the last four digits of your phone number.

To change your pickup location:
Open the Holds tab.
Select the item.
Under ACTIONS, choose Edit Pickup Library.
Choose another CWMARS library from the dropdown list.
Can I register for a library card while you are closed?
Yes.

Can I still drop off my returnable bottles and cans?
Yes, returnable bottles and cans can still be donated on the ramp at the Spear. A collection location at the new Library will be arranged in the spring.
Are you accepting book donations?
As we move into our new library building, we are not accepting book donations. Our collection is carefully curated to meet community needs and space considerations. We truly appreciate your understanding and generosity.
