MILES

The article linked here from the Stanford University Medical School web site describes one of the projects done for the Prevention Research Center by Elizabeth Mezias The goal of the MILES intervention is for participants to sit less and walk more; changing their daily behavior by using Android devices to give people real-time feedback through live wallpapers, and home screen widgets. Additional data about the participants is taken in daily questionnaires and sent to the team's servers for review by the behavioral scientists. These apps are not available through any commercial distribution channel. The initial MILES intervention was completed in the summer of 2012 and results have been published. Elizabeth continues to work on these projects in a maintenance capacity.

The final results of the MILES study were presented and published in March 2013. Dr. King's lab is continuing to distribute the apps and intervene on behalf of mature individuals sit less and walk more thereby improving their health and quality of life. The apps are being translated.
